Professional Skills

My name is Beatriz, and from a young age, I have always been drawn to the ocean, and my passion for marine biology has only grown since then. This led me to complete a degree in Marine Biology and Biotechnology (Aquaculture branch) in Peniche in 2020, followed by a master’s degree in Marine Biology and Conservation in 2022, where I conducted research to understand how environmental stressors impact seahorses from the Atlantic Ocean.

After this, I became involved in a stranding network for marine mammals and turtles, which gave me the opportunity to do an internship in Germany for three months, where I learned new techniques to study the stomach contents of marine mammals. Currently, I am working on the MicroToxFish project, focusing on the effects of microplastics and chemical contaminants on marine life.

By studying behavior, biomarkers, and metabolism, we assess the health and physiological responses of fish under environmental stressors. Through this work, I aim to contribute to the growing body of knowledge surrounding marine pollution and its implications for ecosystem health and biodiversity conservation.
